About

You may wonder or even ask yourself many questions once you have heard the noun Sweetsixteen. Well, some of you may think it’s sixteen sweets or even the students are in their sweet sixteen ‘the’ age in brackets. Just to give you a hint and to get you back on track, neither of the above is true!

The word Sweetsixteen originated from the number of boarding girl students, who yearly start their academic year in the Kenia School of Homeopathy. In 2007 the first 16 pioneers started and it has been a trend and a culture of this Institution to sponsor sixteen female students in every academic year to see them through their three years full time studies to become Homeopathic Nurses. So far the number of students has increased to 48 and we’re expecting more in the near future.

The Sweetsixteen come from all Districts of Kenya, this enables interaction of different cultures, beliefs and religions. We also have an inspiring “Mother” Marie, who is also our beloved Director at the Kenia School of Homeopathy. The environment at our College is conducive in terms of learning and housing, as we really feel at home. We have a well ventilated lecturing hall, spacious rooms (hostel) and our own i-net cafe + library. Not  forgetting our ever green vegetable garden, which provides us with the daily needed fresh ‘mbogas’ to supplement our menu with vitamins.

We have our Sweetsixteen Art project, which generates income to achieve our goals. In this project we do various activities such as drawing and painting, knitting, jewelry, weaving, pottery, making videos and pictures, composing poems and songs and some other decorations of clothes. In short, it’s an all weathered Institution, whereby we also learn health life skills e.g. Driving, swimming, biking and First Aid etc.

Please partner with us and help us to realize our dreams…..

  16. Dear Sweet Sixteens, I am as delighted as you are that the Verkaart Foundation set benevolent eyes on your community in Kwale, being one of the poorest districts in the Kenya. Everything looks great at the clinic. I love the pictures and you are all doing a great job with the site. I can’t wait to visit next time I am at the coast. Lots of love.

    • Hello again sweet sixteen,
I just read the June 2010 4kenia newsletter and it is always a pleasure reading it with the girls and staff expressing themselves so honestly. I can relate to the reality of water scarcity back home and I really feel for the girls having experienced much the same water problems at boarding school myself. Not only is it tiresome for the girls but time consuming and takes a lot of time off of study time. The effort you girls put into the the mobile clinic and the challenges you went through just to set up and ‘preach’ the gospel of homeopathy is amazing and commendable. the article written by Florentina Kai about homeopathy as domestic treatment. She is a good writer, lots of potential there and I think she should pursue writing too on top of homeopathy……

Anyway, congratulations girls for all your hard work and wishing you all the best in your studies. Lots of love. Val

      • Hello again girls,
Heard that you it is a big day for you tomorrow the 31st of September. I just want to wish all of you the best in your exams. There is never need to be anxious or to panic, you have studied, you know it, believe in yourselves, you will do it right and pass.
Remember that these are the best days of your lives, once you finish and get out there, life is never easy especially as women in that society. So I want to encourage you to believe in yourselves, do not let anything get in the way of achieving your dreams and doing these exams are just another step on that ladder.

Lots of love from Finland, Helsinki.
